چکیده

TACTIC is a new detector for low energy nuclear reactions currently under development at TRIUMF. The cylindrical ionization chamber allows three-dimensional reconstruction of particle tracks by means of a two-dimensional anode array combined with a TOF measurement of the drift electrons. In addition, the integrated charge for each pulse provides information about the energy loss of the particle and therefore allows a better identification of the nuclear species producing the track. The geometry of TACTIC covers a large angular range permitting the measurement of differential cross-sections over a large solid angle. It will be ideal for investigations of nuclear processes pertinent to the field of nuclear astrophysics. TACTIC: the TRIUMF Annular Chamber for Tracking and Identification of Charged particles

An in-depth characterization of the TACTIC detector was performed using data from a Gd alpha source and some test runs with a stable ion beam. The detector is an active target time-projection chamber with a blind central region for maximizing beam tolerance and GEM-based electron amplification, equipped with a modern digitizing data acquisition system allowing the recording of full signals. The...

An approximate analytical solution of the Bethe equation for charged particles in the range of radiotherapy energy

Charged particles such as protons and carbon ions are an increasing tool in radiation therapy. However, unresolved physical problems prevent optimal performance, including estimating the deposited dose in non-homogeneous tissue, is an essential aspect of optimizing treatment. The Monte Carlo (MC) method can be used to estimate the amount of radiation, but, this powerful computing operation is v...

Numerical investigation of upward air-water annular, slug and bubbly flow regimes

In this paper, numerical investigation of upward two phase flow of air-water has been studied. Different conditions of flow regimes including annular, wispy annular, slug, churn and bubbly are simulated based on Hewitt and Roberts map, and a good agreement between the experimental data of the map and the numerical simulation has been observed. Accordingly, a proper CFD model in CFD software of ...

Comparison of the Light Charged Particles on Scatter Radiation Dose in Thyroid Hadron Therapy

Bachground: Hadron therapy is a novel technique of cancer radiation therapy which employs charged particles beams, 1H and light ions in particular. Due to their physical and radiobiological properties, they allow one to obtain a more conformal treatment, sparing better the healthy tissues located in proximity of the tumor and allowing a higher control of the disease.  Objective: As it is well ...
